Where to go for help

  • Subscribe to the Stay Smart Online Alert Service to receive easy to understand advice about the latest internet threats, scams and other risks and how they can be recognised and addressed.
  • Your local computer store or repairer may be able to identify any hardware or software issues with your device.
  • Your Internet Service Provider (ISP), the company you pay for your internet, can inform you of known service outages and issues that may affect your access to emails and web pages, including spam.
  • Your banking, shopping and financial institution websites usually post details of known security threats and alerts. Use the website's search function if the information isn't easy to find.



SCAMwatch, run by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), provides information to consumers and small businesses about how to recognise, avoid and report scams.


The Australian Securities and Investment Commission's (ASIC) MoneySmart website explains how scams work, how to identify different scams and what to do if you have been scammed. MoneySmart only deals with scams involving investments, superannuation, managed funds, financial advice or insurance.


Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) regulates online content and provides information about safe use of the internet and mobile phones.

The Australian Government's Guide to Games, apps and social networking provides information on how internet users can protect themselves and their information when using social networking sites, search engines and online games.

Children’s eSafety Commissioner

The Children’s eSafety Commissioner provides information and education to empower children to be safe online.


ThinkUKnow is an internet safety program delivering interactive training to parents, carers and teachers through schools and organisations across Australia. ThinkUKnow helps equip young people with online safety skills to help them enjoy more of the positives of the digital landscape and minimise the harm caused by negative aspects.

eSafety Women

eSafety Women has information for women on how to have a safer online experience. It's designed to empower women to take control online and includes helpful videos, a technology check-up, and a virtual tour of technology found in homes, cars and personal devices.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) provides simple steps to protect your money and personal details and to avoid scams, allowing you to make the most of online shopping and banking.


The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) is an independent Australian Government agency, responsible for freedom of information functions, privacy functions and information policy functions. If you need help lodging a complaint, you can call the OAIC Enquiries Line or use the online Privacy Complaint form.
